Martha Stewart's "Broken Glass" Cupcakes

When I saw Martha Stewart show these on the Today Show: October 18th Episode (Video Link) , I immediately thought they were the coolest thing! They are easy to make from stuff that is already in the cabinet. This is such a busy week and the last week before Halloween, I just figured I would file the idea away and make them next year. I usually stick to more kid friendly themes having a 3 year old, but when my teenage daughter saw them and absolutely loved them, I knew that I had to make them very soon (she is having mouth surgery Thursday- Field Hockey injury- um those mouth guards aren't perfect, even the good ones!) and she may not be able to eat something like this for a few days. Anyway these are super easy and very quick to make!
If you have been following Mrs. Fox's Sweets on Twitter or Facebook you already know this, if not I am sharing it with you now! I am trying to get a headstart on baking my teenage daughter's cakes for her birthday, and freezing them, so that on the big day I can just focus on the decorating part. For the top 2 layers of her birthday cake I am using the Cake Boss Vanilla Cake Recipe, so I used the leftover batter from that, for these cupcakes. I also used the Wilton Decorator Icing, since I already had that in the refrigerator. I am only making a dozen cupcakes, so I cut the ingredients for the "Broken Glass" down to 1/3 of the amount of the full recipe. If you cut the "Broken Glass" recipe down to 1/3, like I did, just use a nonstick loaf pan greased with butter to pour the clear caramel into, perfect size! For the dripping blood, I used a tube of Cake Mate Red Gel, heated in a cup of hot water.

You can view the Original FULL RECIPE at the Martha Stewart Website. I would love to have tried the cupcake and icing recipe that actually goes with this cupcake design. I have been a huge fan of Martha Stewart before I even had a clue how to bake. I did crochet her prison poncho, for myself, daughter, and dog too many years ago! I have watched her show for probably 15 years (until it moved to the Hallmark Channel, I don't have that channel) and I love her books and recipes, so nothing against Martha's recipe, just multitasking here!
These would really WOW guests at a Halloween party!

Cupcake Bites

These Cupcake Bites are inspired by the awesome Bakerella!
Her book is another book that I have so many "want to do" projects bookmarked in, and this is one of them. They are easier than cake pops since there is no fussing with a stick! It is also a great way to reuse some of that various colored melted candy that you have stored in bowls, well you may not, but I do! It is all Candiquik which can be reheated and used multiple times. This is a great time to use leftover cake and frosting too!

Here is what you will need:
melting candy (Wilton, Candiquik, etc- about 8 oz for the cup and 4 oz for the dipped part)
a peanut butter cup mold (mine is Wilton)
sprinkles
cake
frosting

When making cake pops or cupcake bites, I want to get to the fun part, not spend tons of time making the cake part! I also decided to go with a light colored cake so it won't show through my light colored candy. This recipe took 10 minutes at most to prepare. It is slightly altered from the Martha Stewart Yellow Cupcake Recipe. This made 31 balls.

Ingredients
1-1/2 cup AP flour
1-1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce (the original recipe called for butter)
3/4 cup sugar
2 large eggs

Directions
Preheat oven to 350. Spray 8" round cake pan with cooking spray. Put all ingredients (no special order) in stand mixer and mix on medium for about a minute, scraping sides if needed. Bake for about 35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely or overnight if you wish. The cake can also be put into the freezer to speed up the process of cooling.
Once the cake is completely cool and you are ready to begin, crumble the cake up in a large bowl. (I believe the applesauce I substituted for butter made the cake a little denser, but it worked.) I cut the edges off first to keep the edges from discoloring the cake part. Then put 1 to 2 tablespoons frosting of into the crumbled mixture and mix it up.  (I had leftover light red frosting that I used which added color to the crumbs, it turned out to look pretty neat!) Shape into balls that would fit the size of the peanut butter cup mold that you have. If the balls aren't wanting to hold together, add a little more frosting, just enough to get the balls to hold together and chill in the freezer for about 10 minutes.

This is where things get different from cake pops!

Melt your chocolate according to package instructions. Working one at a time, fill the peanut butter cup mold a little over half full with your first color (I am using chocolate) and before it sets quickly press in one of the cake balls into the chocolate. Repeat until you have filled your mold. Once your mold is filled, put it into the refrigerator to set for about 15 minutes before unmolding, if the cups don't unmold easily, they aren't quite ready.
Once the cup part of the cupcake bite is chilled and unmolded, dip it into your next color allowing the 2 colors to just meet. Shake off excess and immediately sprinkle or decorate while still wet.
Since I only have one peanut butter cup mold, I had some in the refrigerator chilling while I was dipping the tops of the ready ones.
Total assembly time for 31 cupcake bites from crumbling cake to finished product: 2 hours
At this point you can leave them at room temperature for the candy to set up and just admire them!
Or...just Take a Bite!

"An Apple a Day" Cupcakes

An Apple for the Teacher,
You are the Apple of My Eye,
An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away,
How you Like Them Apples?,
Snow White ate a poison apple,
and then there was
The famous Twilight Apple from the Twilight Book
Apples, Apples Everywhere!
These Apples, however, are for Back to School!

The design is from the "What's New, Cupcake?" book.
But, before the design is created we must start with a cupcake! Liz from Hoosier Homemade made her back to school cupcakes this year from a recipe in the Martha Stewart Cupcakes Book. I thought that was an awesome idea! That is one of my personal favorite cupcake books, so I decided to do same. I just wanted to make enough cupcakes for the design, so I cut the recipe in half. Below you will find the recipe...halved.

Ingredients for 10 Applesauce-Spice Cupcakes
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
3/8 tsp salt (or 1/4 + 1/8 tsp...since I don't have a 3/8 spoon!)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/16 tsp cloves (just eyeballed it using the 1/8 spoon!)
1/4 cup butter (I used 1/4 cup margarine)
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
2 large eggs- room temperature
3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional- I skipped them)

Directions
Preheat oven to 350. Mix first 6 ingredients (Flour, baking soda, salt and spices) in medium bowl and set aside. Cream together in mixing bowl, both regular sugar and brown sugar with margarine. Add in eggs, one at a time, mixing in between each. Add in applesauce. Add in flour mixture just until mixed. Stir in nuts, if desired. Fill cupcake liners 3/4 full. Bake for 20 minutes or until tooth pick inserted comes out with very little crumb.
Let cool.

 Supplies for Cupcake Decoration
canned vanilla frosting (I used Pillsbury Vanilla)
red food gel (I used Wilton)
mini doughnuts (I used Little Debbie)
tootsie rolls
mint leaves (or green pliable candy, fondant or green icing)
1 container of red sugar (I used Wilton 3.25 ounce)
black candy coated sunflower seeds (I used purple!)

While cupcakes are cooling, reserve 1 teaspoon of vanilla icing for the bite in the apple and begin coloring your canned vanilla frosting red with gel paste. It doesn't have to be red red, the sugar covers up most of it.
Frost the cupcake and then top with a doughnut. I used the entire doughnut just scrapping the chocolate off the bottom to make sure in adhered. Depending on the size of mini doughnut you use you may have to cut a little more off. Once your cupcakes are frosted with a doughnut on top, put them in the freezer for about 15 to 20 minutes.
Put the container of red sugar in a bowl, I found a salsa type bowl worked perfect.
Working with one cupcake out of the freezer at a time, frost the doughnut topped cupcake filling in any spaces. Roll in red sugar. You will find after the cupcake is rolled in sugar, you can shape it a little better and then re-roll to cover any spots that frosting may be showing through. Top with a Tootsie Roll cut in half lengthwise and shape into stem. One Tootsie Roll makes 2 stems. Add fresh mint leaves by the stem, I pushed the in slightly with a toothpick. You could use green pliable candy, rolled gum drops, or fondant cut into a leaf shape, or pip on a leaf with green icing.
They remind me of a Snow White or Twilight Apple.
For the mouth bite, I used a small paring knife and cut out a circle shape and then filled the hole with the reserved white frosting. I dipped my finger in cornstarch to help push the icing into place. I just happened to find candy coated colored sunflower seed at the Dollar Tree store. They were only in rainbow colors. I tried to color one black with Wilton Food Writers, but that didn't work, so my apples have purple seeds! I just made one apple with the bite, if you would like to make more like this you will need to reserve about a tablespoon of white frosting.
I did save a cupcake for sampling without all the goodies on top. It is a little sticky (may be from something I did), but taste great even without frosting! This Applesauce-Spice Cupcake makes a great anytime cupcake. Once the cupcake is all decorated...it is quite messy, but super cute!
So that's it, the cupcakes that I made for back to school this year! It is also the beginning of the end, it is my son's senior year of highschool. It feels like I was just crying while dropping him off at preschool and here we are in his senior year, soon I will be crying again! That also means, another excuse to bake! I can't wait to start making graduation designed sweets this school year! I already have lots pinned on Pinterest!

Happy Back to School Everyone!

Pink Princess Cupcakes #11- Rainbow Princess

Rainbow Princess
This is #11 out of 28 cupcake designs that I am making from the book "Pink Princess Cupcakes" by Barbara Beery. Be sure to check out all of the Pink Princess Cupcakes that I have made!

I started this cupcake by using the Yellow Cupcake Recipe by Martha Stewart. I knew this recipe would be great for this particular cupcake because it is a very thick batter and the colors wouldn't bleed together while baking. The recipe makes 12 so that is perfect for 2 of each color.
Cupcake Batter--- Cupcake Batter in Liners--- Cream Cheese Frosting
I first divided up the batter equally into 6 bowls and colored it the colors of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet, skipping Indigo. I remember learning the order at school by rememebering "Roy G. Biv." That may be all I remember from school!
Then I put a baby size spoonful of each color into the liners, following the reverse direction on the rainbow with the Violet on the bottom. There is not a lot of each color in each liner so you won't end up with perfect stripes, but that's okay!
While the cupcakes were cooling, I divided up a container of Duncan Hines Cream Cheese Frosting into 6 bowls and colored it the same as I did the batter. This made the perfect amount for the 12 cupcakes.
I sprinkled the top of each color with sanding sugars in the same color as the icing, in the book she had jimmies and different shaped sprinkles, but I just used what I had on hand.
They turned out nice and colorful!
Inside and out!
YUM!

Hello Kitty Chocolate Cookies

Hello, Kitty!
The latest buzz in bloggerville is chocolate cut out cookies and that really had me craving a change from regular sugar cookies! Not that I don't love regular sugar cookies, I do change them up with peppermint, coconut, almond, and of course vanilla extracts, but after reading about chocolate cut outs...that is what I long for!
I love the recipe I always use for regular sugar cookies, Martha Stewart's Essential Recipe No. 2: Sugar Cookies, so I just changed it to chocolate by changing the amount of all purpose flour from 3 to 2-1/2 cups and adding 1/2 cup cocoa powder. That's it! This recipe made 22 cookies, probably about 24 or 25 truthfully. The dough was yummy too and you can make little shapes out of it and trick the kids...oh yeah I did...haha!
The cookies came out perfect! They stayed true to size and taste GREAT!
So this is how far I got before I decided to take a picture. Pink bow...check. White outline...check. Flooding...almost done...check. After the cookies were all flooded I put them away for the night to dry.
I am still learning to decorate cookies and still need a lot of practice to make perfect! There are so many wonderful blogs out there for cookie decorating, so I try and absorb a little from each! I got some tips on decorating these cookies at Sweet Sugarbelle's. She has a push pin trick that helps with getting the eyes and nose in the right place! I have really learned a lot from her blog and she has a lot of pictorials to help.

  The Next Day
Pipe on the black bow outline, eyes, whiskers, and yellow nose. Let dry.
I am very pleased with how these turned out, probably my best looking cookies yet!
Packed and ready to go!
...and need I tell you what to do next...
EAT THEM! YUM!
They taste fabulous too!
My kids say the taste reminds them of a chocolate Pop-Tart...yep that's it...YUM!
Good-Bye, Kitty!

Chocolate & Vanilla Cupcakes

Yummy!
Sometimes you just want simple goodness!

These cupcakes were started with my favorite Chocolate Cupcake Recipe from Martha Stewart's Cupcakes book: "Vegan Chocolate Cupcakes" in the printing I own of the book, but in our libraries copy of the book they are called "Allergen-Free Chocolate Cupcakes." I didn't start making this recipe because of an allergy and I am not vegan. I started making this recipe because that particular day I didn't have eggs! I have used this recipe many times since, including one of my Oreo Cupcakes.
You can find the recipe right on the Martha Stewart website and it is called "Divvies Chocolate Cupcakes," and it is credited to Divvies Bakery founder Lori Sandler. Whatever you choose to call this cupcake, it is just plain GOOD!
I always substitute the oil in the recipe for unsweetened applesauce, but today I decided just to see what it taste like using the oil. Right off, you can't see the design on the cupcake liners, which when applesauce is used, you can. The cupcakes were very moist though...perfect!
By the way, the cute liners are Paula Deen!

For the frosting, I used a Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Buttercream Frosting. I usually use Wilton Clear Vanilla, but for this cupcake I wanted the best vanilla that I could find, without too much looking of course! It is definitely better than imitation or even cheap real vanilla!
Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Frosting
16oz box confectioners sugar
1 stick margarine
1/2 cup shortening
2 tablespoons milk (water, if you want to go dairy free)
2 teaspoons Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla
2-3 tablespoons all purpose flour (for thickening to desired consistency)
Each cupcake is topped with a fondant heart brushed with pearl dust, made a few days in advance to dry.

These cupcakes were all I had hoped for...and more!
Sometimes I even surprise myself!

Fireworks Cookies

Everybody's Making Them!
Yes, this is the cookie design on the cover of the Martha Stewart Living Magazine and yes, I am making them too! Why not? They are eye catching and easy! I used this method on the very first Halloween Cupcakes I made and a similar method on Shamrock Cookies.
I started by making my favorite sugar cookie recipe: Martha Stewart's Essential Recipe No. 2: Sugar Cookies. This recipe has never failed me! This time I used almond flavoring. I cut them out using a 4" round cutter, so these are big cookies! The recipe makes 12 cookies at the 4-inch size. I just made 10 with some dough left over to try out my new cookie press!
To decorate the cookies, all you have to do is outline your cookies with royal icing and a size 3 tip (you can find the recipe I use at my Margarita, Flip Flips and Cheap Sunglasses Cookie Post). Let the outline dry a few minutes and then thin out your icing and fill 'er up! For these cookies you don't want to let the first color dry before adding rings inside the cookie with various colors and size 2 tip, so make sure all your bags are ready to go! Drag a toothpick through the wet icing and that's it! It is best to work with just one cookie at a time!

Flashback to July 4th 2010

It's Flashback Friday!
This is a "now just occasional" segment that I post to show you some of my past adventures...
For this cupcake, I painted the inside of the piping bag, prepared with a 1M tip, with red up one side and blue up the other side and filled with Vanilla Buttercream frosting.
I experimented with a couple different star tips too
My daughter is the cookie maker in the family and made these stained glass 4th of July cookies!
She started out with our favorite sugar cookie recipe: Martha Stewart Essential Recipe No. 2: Sugar Cookies. She rolled out the dough and cut out with a large star cookie cutter and then cut out the center with a small cookie cutter. She put Jolly Rancher candies in a zipper bag covered with a towel and used a hammer to break it up. Once the cookies were placed on the cookie sheet, she filled the center with the crushed candies. After the cookies baked, she iced them with Vanilla Buttercream icing and this is what they looked like! This was her first cookie project using this technique and I think she did a fabulous job!
Here are all of the different cupcakes and cookies that we made for July 4th, 2010!
Even the inside of the cupcake was Patriotic with Pillsbury Stars & Stripes Funfetti cake mix!

Margaritas, Flip Flops, & a Pair of Cheap Sunglasses!

Margarita and Flip Flop Cookies are showing up everywhere! I recently saw the Margaritas at Glorious Treats with a fabulous "How To". Then I saw the Summer Cookie Cutters by Wilton at Michael's, so I just have to give them a try!

First the cookie part...
You can view the recipe I like to use and the tutorial for that by visiting my
Rockin' Shamrock Cookies Post
For this batch of cookies I am using Coconut extract to add to that tropical vibe!

On to the decorating part.....
I am not the greatest at decorating cookies at all! I used to use the wrong icing, either store bought or the same buttercream I put on cupcakes. Then when I did learn the right icing, I didn't give it a long enough time to dry. Now knowing my downfalls, can I pull off these great cookies?
After taking Wilton's Course 2 Flowers and Cake Design, I have definitely gotten used to making and using Royal Icing, so that is what I am using for these cookies, straight from the class book.

Icing Ingredients
1 box (1 pound) of confectioners sugar (this way you know you have the right amount)
3 tablespoons meringue powder
5-6 tablespoon warm water

Directions
Put the confectioners sugar and meringue powder in your mixer bowl. Add 6 tablespoons of warm water. Mix on lowest speed for exactly 10 minutes. Divide the icing into glass bowls and color as desired. Cover with plastic wrap and then with the lid. This will keep for a few weeks as long as you keep the air out!

For the outlines of the cookies- add water by the drop to reach toothpaste consistency. THIS IS THE KEY....TOOTHPASTE CONSISTENCY! I learned that from reading the "How to's" at Glorious Treats. Using a tip 3, outline your cookies. I only had one tip 3, somehow they are disappearing, so I used tip 2's on the other 2 colors.

To fill in the cookies- Put the icing back in the bowl and thin it out a little more with water a couple drops at a time to SHAMPOO CONSISTENCY! Again, I learned that from reading the tutorials at Glorious Treats! Once you are at shampoo consistency, you flood in your icing, using the same tip that you used to outline.

To put color on top of color- let dry 6-8 hours or overnight. If not, the second color will bleed right into the first color (Trust me. I know...I've done that before)  I am letting mine dry overnight before adding additional colors to be safe.....

The next day....

I added a little pearl dust to give the icing a little shimmer and added the finishing touches.

For the Margarita Glasses- I piped a little of the royal icing on the top of each Margarita rim and dipped in clear/white sparkling sugar and added a royal icing Violet that I have leftover from Wilton Course 2- Flowers and Cake Design.
For the Limes and Pink fictitious Lemons- I darkened some of the pink icing I had left and piped on the peel with size 3 tip, once that was about dry I piped on the white with size 2 tip.
For the straps on the flip flops- I used tip 46 to give them little ridges (although you really can't see the ridges from the pictures) and I added a royal icing Violet to the flip flops too.
The sunglasses- I piped dots and dipped in the clear/white sparkling sugar and added a Violet to each side.
I just love how these cookies turned out!
It's a lot of fun  and really not hard, now that I know what I am doing!

The Little Mermaid

Under the Sea
under the sea
Darlin' it's better down where it's wetter
Take it from me.
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devoting full time to floating
Under the sea

Supplies
1 package white candy melts
one lavender candy melt
one pink candy melt
black candy coloring (or you could use a couple black candy melts in the white to tint grey)
Seashells candy mold
4 chewy granola bars
Ariel and Flounder Picks
Ariel Cupcake liners
candy fish
piping gel
blue icing coloring
 2 cups white icing
pink and white fondant (just a small amount to make flowers)
brown sugar
Cupcakes ready to be decorated

Day 1
The first step in making these cupcakes was to make the candy shells and the rock that Ariel will sit on top of. I first started by melting 3/4 package of Ambrosia White Candy Bark in the Wilton Chocolate Pro, this takes about 20-30 minutes. When that was done, I melted one lavender and one pink Wilton Candy Melt (yes just one of each!) on separate sides of a microwave safe plate for 30 seconds on 50%. I used a lollipop stick to paint streaks into the Wilton Seashells Candy Mold and then using a plastic spoon topped that with the white melted candy, making sure to tap the mold on the cabinet to let out any air bubbles. Put these in the refrigerator to set (about 10 minutes) and then tap them onto the cabinet to unmold. They should be really easy to unmold, if they aren't, refrigerate them for a few minutes more. Since I am only making 12 Ariel Cupcakes and really only need 12 seashells, (there are 12 Ariel Picks and 12 Flounder Picks in the Wilton Disney Princess Ariel Fun Pix) but I made extra just in case. The mold makes 11 shells, so I did this a couple times. (Tip- if you happen to overfill the mold, don't worry, after the candy sets up you can easily break off the excess candy and use the warmth of your fingers to smooth out the shell)
While the candy shells are setting up, open up 4 chewy granola bars (preferably without chocolate chips- they tend to melt and look ugly). Break up the granola bars into about 3 pieces each bar and shape into the rocks. I also made rocks using the same method for St Patrick's Day Blarney Stone Cupcakes. These rocks are just a little larger than the ones for the Blarney Stones. Add enough Wilton Black Candy Coloring to turn the white candy in the pot to a grey color. There are special oil based colors to color the candy melts. You could also use a few black candy melt disks to turn the white grey if you have those. (Black Candy Melts are only available at Halloween time around here, so this fall I am going to have to get a few bags since I am always needing black or grey! ) Anyway, back to business...dip your granola rocks into the grey melting candy with a plastic spoon, remove, and place on waxed paper.
When you are finished with the rocks, put them in the refrigerator a few minutes to set before you turn off the pot of candy in case you need to go over any spots you missed or touched, it can easily be done with a spoon.
Now all of the shells and the rocks can sit at room temperature until they are needed...I'm done for the day!
Total time for Day 1- about 2 hours including melting, set up, and cleaning up time.

Day 2
I am super excited to get started on the cupcakes today!
The recipe I am using is Yellow Cupcakes from the Martha Stewart Website. But first, I must line the cupcake tins with Disney Princess Ariel Baking Cups. (Tip- if you have a problem seeing the designs on your baking cups after they are baked, switch out the oil or butter in the recipe for unsweetened applesauce and you can see the pictures on the liner perfectly and even cut out some fat, yet still have a very moist cupcake!)

I didn't realize that the recipe only makes 12, so I will have to make 2 batches. I will be doing each batch differently since I only have enough eggs for one batch. UH-OH! No...that's okay, we can work around having no eggs!

For Batch One- I replaced the 1/2 cup butter for 1/2 cup applesauce and baked until toothpick came out clean, 22 minutes here!

For Batch 2- THE EGGLESS BATCH! I first replaced the 1/2 cup butter for 1/2 cup applesauce, then I changed the milk amount from 1/2 cup to the line right in between 1/3 and 1/2 cup. (I am not a mathematician, so I don't know what that would be called!) Finally, in place of each egg, I added 1 Tablespoon more of applesauce...so total in Batch 2 I used 1/2 cup PLUS 2 Tablespoons of applesauce. These also took 22 minutes to bake.
Left-Batch one with eggs; Right- Batch two with no eggs
Batch 1- The cupcakes with the eggs had a larger dome and were a little more yellow due to the yolks. They were a breadier cupcake.
Batch 2- The cupcakes with no eggs, I preferred, they were a softer cupcake, but both batches pretty much tasted the same!

While the cupcakes cooled, I thought it would be cute to add some flowers to the rocks. I rolled out pink fondant to 1/8" and cut out with a small flower fondant cutter. I hand rolled the tiny white centers of the flower and glued together with Gum Paste Adhesive that I learned about in Wilton Course 2- Lesson 1, you will also find directions in that post.
I carefully inserted one of the Ariel picks into each of the rocks and then used gum paste adhesive to adhere the flowers to the rocks and sat those aside to dry a few minutes. While they were drying, I colored 1-1/2 cups Wilton Decorators Icing and 2/3 of the container of Wilton Piping Gel, both blue. Save the remaining 1/2 cup white icing to go under the sand.
Next onto the assembly of the Ariel Cupcakes.
To start, I iced 2/3 of each cupcake blue and the remaining 1/3 white. I pressed brown sugar into the white icing with a spoon for the sand.  (For half of the cupcakes, I had the sand in the front, the other half I had the sand in the back, not sure which I like best!) For stability, I used an additional toothpick poked into the bottom of the rock to secure the rock to the cupcake...be careful, I did crack one rock doing this! I placed Ariel on the cupcake and then applied the piping gel with a small baby spoon over all of the blue icing and around the rock. For the shells that I put on the cupcakes with the sand in the front, I cut a toothpick in half and sightly poked into the candy shell and then poked the shell into the cupcake. For the shells that I put on the cupcakes with sand in the back, I used the larger shells and they are just propped up against a toothpick.(You could do all this without additional toothpicks, the first one I didn't use toothpicks, but I wanted these to be very stable when I moved them so used toothpicks. For the upright seashell, I propped it against a tooth pick, I don't think they would stay well at all without a toothpick.)

Now it is Flounders Turn...
These went very quick. I just iced the cupcake blue with the blue icing and then went over it with the blue piping gel. Next, I place the Flounder pick and a couple candy fish in the water!
Total time for Day 2- about 2 hours from the time I started mixing the batter to the time I had everything cleaned up.
These were a lot of fun to make!

Last Years Little Mermaid Cupcakes
I also made Little Mermaid Cupcakes last year using Disney Princess Ariel Icing Decorations. The Icing decorations didn't have an Ariel, just Flounder, a seashell, and a star. For the Ariel picks, I went to the Disney Princess Website and then click on "Printables" and then "Stickers". They no longer have the stickers I used, but they have different Ariel stickers that are cute too! I didn't have sticker paper to print them, so I just printed them and cut them to where the front and back matched in size and glued them to a toothpick to make my own picks!
View the posting with these cupcakes at- A Year's Worth of Disney Cupcakes!
